Dematting Solutions
We understand that grooming your dog could end up being really challenging so don’t feel bad if your dog ends up being matted. However, its important to understand that there are limitations when it comes to brushing out matted coats.
Matts form at the root of the dogs hair close to the skin. When the coat gets wet (rain, sea, home bath) matts shrink, much like a wooly jumper in the wash, and can pull on the dogs skin causing discomfort. Matting also prevents sunlight and fresh air getting to the skin, locking in heat and causing sweaty areas ideal conditions for fungus, bacteria and parasites.
Once the coat is matted its kinder to the dog to just clip the matts off. Dematting is a painful and unpleasant experience that can have a lasting effect on the dog and make them dislike grooming all the more. Because matting formes close to the skin, a short clipper blade is needed in order to get underneath the matt to clip it off, hence why groomers have to go so short. It may not look great but it will grow back, in fact within 4 weeks it will have grown in to a nice length.
